I know what you're thinking. There is just no way you can put together your own website. Publishing, html codes, domain names, web hosting, upload, download…..it's all just too complicated unless you are a computer geek. But you might be surprised to find out that it's not as complicated as that (I mean, if I can do it, anyone can…lol). There are even websites that will do most of the work for you. From hosting the site, to providing domain names and registration. They even have templates to help you design your site. You can get a site that is free (though you will have to put up with a bunch of pop up ads on your site), or for a nominal fee, you can get them ad free. And there are a ton of books on the subject (I recommend the "Dummies" series…they are easy to understand if you don't know a lot about computers. They even have one on building websites). Truly, having your own website is not that far out of reach.

Ok, so you can get your own website. But what do you put on it?? You don't sell anything, nor do you have your own business to promote. Well, not all websites have to be about sales. They can provide useful information as well. You can make your site all free information, and have "sponsors" to help make you money (see the Affiliate Programs page). Or maybe you make things by hand (knit, crochet, ect….) that you can sell. There is a wide range of things you can do with your website. It's all up to you. But before you get started, the first thing you will want to do is check with your local business license office (should be a city government office) to see if you will need any kind of licenses first. And if you live in a state with sales tax, you will have to collect taxes on any purchases made from people in your home state. The business license office should be able to give you all the info you need. And don't forget to check with the IRS to make sure your ducks are in a row!
